When Amateur Eric Mendrysa bought Xtra Magic Doctor to have a fun horse to show, he didn’t realize the dreams “Magic Mike” would be fulfilling.
The golden horse with the flowing mane took everyone’s breath away when he demonstrated what an athletic powerhouse he was at the 2022 AQHA World Show, where he won the L2 Senior Reining and was Reserve World Champion in the L3, shown by Lucio Casalecchi.
When he became part of the barn at Reid Thomas Performance Horses, Eric and his trainers also discovered that Mike, a 2014 AQHA stallion by Shiners VooDoo Doctor and out of Aleena Starlight was “the most exceptional minded horse I’ve ever owned,” explains Eric. In addition, Mike’s extraordinary movement and powerful and muscular build wowed his ever-increasing fan base wherever he showed.
Already an NRHA multiple derby champion and AQHA World Champion, Mike expanded his resume with Trainer Curtis Reynolds and Eric as they added the Ranch Riding in June at the Redbud Spectacular. Since then, he’s accumulated almost $50K in earnings to make his LTE over $100K, with an NSBA World Championship, 4 Congress Championships in Ranch Rail, a Reserve Amateur Reining World title, and Overall Highpoint Ranch Horse at the 2023 AQHA World Show, to name just a few of his accolades.
After his stunning performances in the ranch division at the world show, Eric explains he was reluctant to show Mike in Amateur Reining as he was concerned he would be tired, but they came away with the Reserve title after a remarkable pattern, with Mike performing with his heart and soul without hesitation.

He also had demonstrated what a gentleman he was throughout the show, a stud who stood quietly in his lineups next to mares, so everyone’s ears perked up when they heard the announcement in the winning placings that Mike was a stallion.
Due to popular demand, the multiple World, Congress and NRHA Champion will be standing to a limited number of mares in 2024 since he will still be showing. “He’s so kind and deserving to produce more like-minded, quality, talented offspring,” explains Eric.
Mike’s genetic results are just as perfect as he is – he’s 6-Panel N/N across the board, and his frozen semen has great motility.
