“Muscle tension,” Dr. Berger says, “is a physiological response to internal (pain) and external threats (fear). Both behaviors evolved in the horse to protect its body.” A horse in pain can build an association between its pain and its potential source, be it a person, piece of tack or tool. It is essential to recognize and assuage the emotional response before an escalation in pain becomes an escalation in difficult behavior.

A $1 per entry sanction fee will be charged to the exhibitor and paid to APHA by show management.  To help offset costs, APHA sanction fees will be reimbursed to the show on a dollar per dollar basis if management purchases the awards for these classes through the APHA’s new store, the PH Barn Door.

In 1919, Sir Barton won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes to achieve what’s considered the greatest accomplishment of a thoroughbred racehorse. Today, almost 100 years later, Longines had the honor of timing Justify’s win at the Belmont Stakes, marking a Triple Crown victory that has only happened 12 times before.

Gene had shown horses for over 50 years and trained many Champions in multiple breeds, including AQHA, POAC, and PHBA. Industry Mourns Passing of Young Equestrian, Clint Collingsworth

We are very saddened to relay the news of the passing of a young equestrian taken well before his time. 27-year-old Clint Collingsworth passed away June 7th, 2018 at his home. In addition to being a lifelong horseman and owner/operator of Collingsworth Quarter Horses, Clint was a NSBA World Champion and had several Top 10 finishes at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
