AQHA World Show Introduces NEW Western Pleasure Challenge

The title of Western Pleasure Challenge champion will be presented to the exhibitor who earns the most points, showing up to three horses. Two of the horses can be shown in any of the existing open western pleasure classes: 2-year-old western pleasure, Level 2 or Level 3 junior western pleasure, or Level 2 or Level 3 senior western pleasure. The catch is a mandatory class: a new 3-year-old western pleasure stakes, which will be offered for the first time at the Lucas Oil World this year.

Lightly wetting down shavings and watering the indoor on a regular basis are good starting points to help reduce the amount of dust. It is also important to think about doing dustier chores, like sweeping aisles, doing stalls or throwing hay, while horses are in turnout, as it can take two hours for dust to settle.

While the number of APHA members and horses registered to Chinese owners is relatively small, interest in Paint Horses and Western riding is growing, particularly among parents and children. An Tao, a long-time Paint Horse enthusiast, has been working for years to bring American horses to China and promote Western riding in the country. He is one of the affiliate’s founding members and leader.
