AHC Compiles Resources to Help Equine Industry During Pandemic

Because a large percentage of equine businesses file tax returns as S-Corporations or “pass through” entities, the small business loans could be especially helpful for many members of the horse industry moving forward. With respect to the half-trillion dollars in direct payments to individual taxpayers, the Administration states that it would seek to disburse the payments in two portions including a $250 billion installment that could be available as soon as early April. Stay tuned for details related to stimulus, and possible benefits for large segments of the horse industry, as lawmakers turn their attention to legislation intended to blunt the impact of COVID-19.

IBHA Adds EWD Classes to 2020 World Show

IBHA plans to host EWD Showmanship and Horsemanship classes at the 2020 World Show, which will be held July 27 through August 1 at C Bar C Arena in Cloverdale, Indiana. The show will also feature an added money Green Western Pleasure and added money Green Hunter Under Saddle in addition to a full slate of IBHA and Dual-Approved NSBA classes.

Secondly, in a move to help Regional Show Managers, the Board, at my urging, waived two rule restrictions for judges. For shows impacted by the highly contagious COVID-19 outbreak, Regional Show Managers can use the same judges in 2020 that they used in 2019. What’s more, we’ve waived the rule which prohibits judges from working two shows within 200 miles of each other during any 30-day period.

What are you doing at the barn to keep up your horse’s training while maintaining proper social distancing? Trainer, Madison Hallas of Hallas and Henry Show Horses in Bucyrus, Ohio is pulling double duty by helping to desensitize a 3-year-old gelding named Letts Make A Deal while also entertaining her two kiddos that are out of school. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Madison’s two kids, 5-year-old Aubrey Henry, and 3-year-old Stratten Henry, were in pre-school from 8:30-3 Monday through Friday. With the kids at home, sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do!
