Around the Rings – All American Quarter Horse Congress, October 12 2022
On Wednesday, October 12th, exhibitors competed in Pleasure Driving, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Western Riding.
In the usual Congress style, classes were huge, which meant splits and finals to reveal the winners! In the 3 Year Old Non Pro Western Pleasure, for example, the winners of a class of 72 emerged, with Kristen Galyean with VS The Fireman in the first spot.
Kristen says “Gronk” is out of her favorite VS Code Red mare, VS Lady In Red, and that inspired his name, since “code red” is a fire code. Aaron Moses still has the Junior Pleasure and the 3 Year Old Pleasure at Congress with Gronk, and they’ll show in those same classes together at the World Show, in addition to the Versatility.
“He’s very gifted and talented at changing leads, so we’re very excited about his future doing the versatility and maybe the western riding down the line. He has a full slate of mares to breed for next year, but we’ll bring him out when we get everyone taken care of,” she explains.
Besides his over-the-top talent, Gronk is notable for always having his ears up, and Kristen says he’s always been that way. “He’s very sweet, he really has a good demeanor, and he’s always been super laid back, Aaron said he’s been very easy to train from day one,” she explains. It was her husband, Wes Galyean of Wes Galyean Cutting Horses, who picked him out of the pasture.
“My husband is very big on conformation with the cutting horses, so he looks at form to function, and that’s his favorite thing about Gronk. He’s well made, he looks the part, and he has the brains to match, so we’ve been super blessed with him. We’re very proud of how he’s been doing, and Aaron has done a great job. He’s perfect all the time and I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Then in one of the last classes of the evening, Hillary Timchak (formerly Roberts) cinched the top spot in the Maturity Non Pro Western Pleasure Stakes out of a class of 57. Hillary says “Cher” has a special place in her heart for good reasons – watch the EC TV video to learn more:
