The highlight event was the Team Versatility Friday evening. Teams of 4 compete in 4 mystery classes that are determined by the roll of a giant inflatable dice, then they have 30 minutes to prep before the start of the first event.

The show series ShoMe Horse Shows in Michigan is a wildly popular, open, all-breed circuit built around doing things differently, and just for fun.  “All three of our shows have a different theme and outside-the-box classes,” says Liz Gear, who owns and operates ShoMe Horse Shows with her husband, Kurtis Gear.

For example, their much-loved ShoMe Holiday ShoDown that took place December 16-18, 2022, at Michigan State University Pavilion, sold out in less than 15 minutes when they opened reservations (over 350 stalls).

Their double-judged 2023 ShoMe Spring ShoCase just wrapped up April 28-30 at MSU in Lansing, Michigan.
“We more than doubled our attendance this year, with nearly 200 horses and 1500 straight entries, this only being the second year we have offered a spring show,” explains Kate Barrett.

“ShoMe Horse Shows kicked off its first of three open show series with the Spring ShoCase. This is the first show of the horse show season for many exhibitors in Michigan. Door prizes were given out from sponsors: Cowboy Leather- MI, Soft Landing Farm, Show Stopper Tack, and The Prickly Pear,” Kate says.

“We offer challenge classes where riders can show off impressive, non-traditional horse show skills that included:  Handsfree Showmanship, Bareback Horsemanship and Equitation, Bridleless Western Pleasure, and the Granny Smith Apple Challenge, all of which were sponsored classes by Designer Farms, Fabus Farms, Xanadu Farms, Northfork Farms & Outback, and The Purple Spur Tack.”

The Team Versatility Challenge also grew this year to the tune of 13 teams.  “Teams are made up of 4 team members who compete in a random draw of classes,” Kate explains. “This year’s show we rolled a large inflatable dice for Halter class, English Pleasure, Equitation and A Down & Back speed event. Each member competes in an event and the team who accumulates the most points with placings wins! This year’s winner was Fireballs of Fieldstone Farm. This event was sponsored by JR Covell Performance Horses & MIHA.”
