Around the Rings – 2023 (Not So) Little Buckeye

The 2023 Little Buckeye, from July 6-9, 2023, just wrapped up their largest show to date at the Garwood Arena in Columbiana, Ohio.
The show was presented by the Ohio Amateur Quarter Horse Association and approved by AQHA, NSBA, OQHA, EOQHA, and NOQHA, and the Trail patterns were by Tim Kimura.
Judges: David Denniston, Suzy Jeane, Jonathan Meilleur, Andrea Simons
Thurs/Fri only: Sissy Anderson, Lori Gordon, Dawn Clason-Kreakie, Amy Watkins
The show boasted 632 stalls (with every stall filled), and 65 entries in some of the classes, explains OQQHA President Heather Duer, with over 2800 entries for each of the 4 judges – over 11,000 entries total.
Though the show was large, OAQHA rolled out the red carpet to make everyone feel welcome, as is the OAQHA’s usual style! “We fed over 525 people at six exhibitor parties,” says Heather, “with 20 dozen donuts and mimosas every morning.”
Since their appetites were satisfied, it was on to provide the best in competition, with Ride the Pattern clinics for Trail, Showmanship, Ranch Trail and Ranch Riding, Horsemanship, and Equitation.
Another highlight: Two jackpot classes with $2k added money in the trail, sponsored by Buckeye Nutrition, and $1k added money in the Green HUS sponsored by HBF Hot Expectations.
