The Arizona Quarter Horse Association just wrapped up its Dorn Parkinson Memorial Show that was held November 30 – December 3, 2023, in Queen Creek, Arizona.
Judges were Holly Hover, Mark Sheridan, Michelle Pearson, and David Avery, and the show offered a full slate of ranch classes, speed events, cutting, cowhorse, boxing, heading, heeling, all around classes and more!
The show also hosted a free lunch on Saturday and Sunday for the first 100 attendees. The versatility of the show, combined with the affordability at one of the best times of year in Arizona, generates praise from its participants, and exhibitor Mattie Alewine was no exception. Here’s what she had to say, which sums up the atmosphere and appreciation of the show in a nutshell:
“In response to the cries for affordable shows – Shout out to the Arizona AQHA!! The Dorn Parkinson Memorial Show the first weekend of December is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to working through my budget! Those able, I highly recommend supporting a show like this!
* 4 judges, 4 days, FULL slate of classes (cattle classes, ranch classes, roping, speed classes, show classes, JUMPING)
* rookie through L3 class options
* high quality judges
* $16/class
* AND, an exhibitor that enters rookie/L1 can cross enter the corresponding youth/am/select class FOR FREE!!!
Not to mention, it’s about 65-70 degrees in AZ that time of year…. This couldn’t be any better!!
With everyone looking for a show that serves everyone from beginner to a seasoned competitor, I definitely thought this show needed a shout out!! I can’t wait to go and be able to afford to get myself off the dollar menu at McDonalds for the weekend!” she says.
