The American Quarter Horse Foundation is continuing the AQHLead program for the Class of 2021 with support from the Dogwood Foundation. After supporting the pilot year of the program, the Dogwood Foundation has partnered with AQHF to facilitate a second year of AQHLead with a challenge grant. For every donation AQHF receives to the AQHLead program up to a total of $50,000, the Dogwood Foundation will generously provide a matching donation.

“AQHLead is such a meaningful investment in our industry’s future,” said Anna Morrison, chief Foundation officer. “How many investments can you make that immediately provide a 100% return? That’s the power of the Dogwood Foundation challenge grant partnering with donors to double their impact.”

AQHF has already received a commitment of one outside donor, Ken and Maryellen Mumy, for $5,000 to support the AQHLead Class of 2021.

“Knowing that our $5,000 gift would be matched by the Dogwood Foundation to create a $10,000 gift made our decision to support AQHLead even more clear,” said Ken, a past president of the American Quarter Horse Association. “The young people benefiting from this program are the future of our industry.”

AQHLead is committed to fostering the development and enrichment of young adult leaders, ages 19-34, in the equine industry. AQHLead participants attend two AQHA conventions during their time in the program, and also attend a third industry event that helps enrich their goals for the program. Program participants are paired with an AQHA standing-committee chairperson to learn more about their leadership within AQHA and the equine industry. Participants also learn more about the industry from monthly calls with experts in a variety of areas impacting AQHA and the equine industry.
