The American Quarter Horse Association is partnering with the South Dakota Quarter Horse Association to host a reception for ranching breeders affected by the region’s historic blizzard that struck in October 2013. The reception is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on January 31 in the Dakota Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza during the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, South Dakota.
“Many AQHA ranching breeders were hit with a storm that killed large numbers of their livestock and horses,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. “However, the resiliency of our breeders is a testament to the heritage they represent and the ownership and pride they have in their work.
“Our breeders have engaged these strong characteristics throughout their lives and have passed them down through the generations, which will be a large part of what gets these AQHA ranching breeders and families through this challenging time.”
To ease the strain on the AQHA horsemen, last fall AQHA automatically extended membership renewal deadlines for 90 days for members in the affected region. Breeders were also given a two-month extension for submitting Stallion Breeding Reports and AQHA Incentive Fund nominations.
The January 31 reception for AQHA ranching breeders will be a time for friends to gather and share their passion for their western way of life, and join together for a fun evening of fellowship and celebration of all the AQHA ranching breeders and their families.
