The American Quarter Horse Association believes in the future of the equine industry. The development of young minds and horse judging skills is of utmost importance to the vitality of the American Quarter Horse and the equine industry as a whole. To encourage the education of youth in competitive horse judging, AQHA provides a manual for 4-H, Future Farmers of America and collegiate horse judging coaches.
The manual outlines:
- Best practices for coaching a horse judging team
- How to teach oral reasons
- A guideline for conformation across all breeds and disciplines
- The judging of major disciplines
This manual was designed as a guide for developing a successful horse judging team. Terms, suggestions and drawings that are listed can be used to describe any individual, no matter the style established by a breed organization. The body parts and structural diagrams, as well as structural deviations, are the same for all breeds. Criteria for judges are universal rules that have withstood the test of time.
