Earlier this spring, the American Quarter Horse Foundation made the decision to temporarily close the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in Amarillo, Texas, to protect the health and safety of visitors and staff. Since the closure, the Museum staff has utilized the opportunity to evaluate areas of need within the business, as well as improvements to exhibits and the Museum. After careful consideration of the local infection levels, in addition to the need to further evaluate facility and exhibit needs, the Museum will remain closed until May 31.
“Our Museum is dedicated to educating and sharing our passion with visitors who travel near and far to view the beautiful Hall of Fame and our insightful exhibits,” said Chris Sitz, chief Foundation officer. “With the extended closure, our team will be conducting maintenance on existing exhibits to ensure the highest quality of displays at the time of reopening.”
An official reopening date will be announced at a later time. The Foundation, in conjunction with the American Quarter Horse Association, will continue to monitor local, state and federal mandates regarding the pandemic.
During the temporary closure, public events, field trips, bus tours and special events will not be offered.
The Hall of Fame & Museum will accommodate private tours, in accordance with local guidelines and protocols, for Hall of Fame members and their families during this extended temporary closure. To schedule a tour, contact the Hall of Fame & Museum at 806-378-5021 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, Monday through Friday.
Additional updates, including details about when the Museum will reopen to the public, will be shared on AQHA.com and the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum Facebook page as information is available. For additional information or questions, contact museum@aqha.org or 806-376-5181.
