Displays for the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Class of 2017 were unveiled July 25 in a special ceremony at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo.

Four men and one woman were inducted in March during the 2017 AQHA Convention: AQHA Past President Peter J. Cofrancesco III of Sparta, New Jersey; AQHA Executive Committee member, the late Dick Monahan from Walla Walla, Washington; Bobby D. Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; the late Marvin Barnes of Ada, Oklahoma; and trainer and horsewoman Sandra Vaughn of Hernando, Florida. Five horses were also inducted: 1987 racing stallion Strawfly Special, 1985 western pleasure stallion Zips Chocolate Chip, 1994 show gelding Majestic Scotch, 1961 barrel racing mare Casey’s Ladylove and 1983 racing mare Dashing Phoebe.

“Induction into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame is the highest honor possible in our Association,” said Craig Huffhines, AQHA executive vice president. “I commend the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Selection Committee for its hard work in making these choices and am honored to have been a part of the induction of the Class of 2017 in March at convention and now the unveiling of their display cases at our Hall of Fame.”

The display cases for the Class of 2017 were unveiled and the inductees, their families and connections were invited to take the first look at the displays on July 25 at the Hall of Fame. The special displays will remain up for a year at the Hall of Fame in Amarillo. Then, the artifacts will be moved to permanent display cases.
