During the past week, 54 AQHA Select all-around amateur contenders competed in a variety of events throughout the AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan).
The Select all-around amateur is Jim Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Bound showed the American Quarter Horse Bound To Cash Chex, owned by Jax Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The 2007 palomino mare, by Nu Chex To Cash and out of SF Kings Firstlady, was bred by Hilldale Farm of Brashear, Texas. Bound and Bound To Cash Chex earned 45 points. They earned the world champion title in tie-down roping; placed third in breakaway and ranch riding; fifth in stake race; and were finalists in heeling. The duo also won the Select all-around amateur title in 2016.
Bound received a prize package that included $10,000, an original Lisa Perry bronze and a rose bouquet.
The Select reserve all-around amateur is Annette Fowler of Azle, Texas. Fowler showed her American Quarter Horse, Malibu Molly. The 2002 brown mare, by Coats N Tails and out of Shezawesham (TB), was bred by Rick and Dolly Chayer of Sperry, Oklahoma. Fowler and Malibu Molly earned 39 points. They earned the world champion titles in equitation over fences and jumping and reserve champion titles in hunter hack and working hunter.
Fowler and Malibu Molly received a prize package of $2,500 and a silver bowl.
The third-place Select all-around amateur is Katherine Tobin of Scottsdale, Arizona. Tobin showed her American Quarter Horse, RA Undisputed. The 2006 sorrel gelding, by Chips Hot Chocolate and out of Are You Zipped, was bred by Joe and Suzy Jeane of Phoenix. Tobin and RA Undisputed earned 38 points. They earned the world championship title in horsemanship and reserve world championship title in western riding and placed seventh in trail.
The fourth-place all-around amateur is Pam Stubbs of Scottsdale, Arizona. Stubbs showed her American Quarter Horse A Classic Iron. The 2009 sorrel gelding, by These Irons Are Hot and out of Deb’s Delivery (TB), was bred by Elite Farm of Jensen Beach, Florida. Stubbs and A Classic Iron earned 32 points. They earned the world championship title in hunter hack and placed third in equitation over fences and working hunter and fourth in jumping.
The fifth-place Select all-around amateur is Anne Wilson of Dallas. Wilson showed her American Quarter Horse, Laziness. The 2011 bay gelding, by Lazy Loper and out of Suddenly Radical, was bred by Thad Burnight of Omaha, Nebraska. Wilson and Laziness earned 23 points. They placed fifth in showmanship, sixth in performance halter geldings and seventh in horsemanship.
The Select all-around amateur third- through fifth-place award winners received a prize package that included $1,000.
AQHA also awarded the Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition Award. The award was presented to the Super-Select exhibitor, age 70 and over, earning the greatest number of points in competition at the 2017 Adequan® Select World. This year, 69 exhibitors competed for the award.
This year, Rick Neff of Galt, Missouri, and his American Quarter Horse, Dashing Strader, took home the title by winning the reserve champion titles in barrel racing and pole bending and placing fourth in barrel racing. Dashing Strader is a 2008 chestnut gelding, by Dash Ta Fame and out of Savthelastdanceforme, bred by Phillip Ray Strader of Worden, Illinois. Neff and Dashing Strader received a specially designed plaque for their accomplishment.
The Adequan® Select World is the world’s largest, single-breed championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and over. This is the pinnacle event for Select amateur competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes, representing English, over fences, western, speed, cattle and halter events.
