Halter classes have concluded this morning over in the Watt arena at the 2014 ApHC Youth World Championship Show, and five World Champions have been named.

First up, Macy Mentz and Miss Classy Dream claimed the top spot in the Most Colorful at Halter class with Matthew Graves and Zip On Prince coming in a close second. Taylor Cartmell and Way Different scored a win in Youth Senior Geldings with Yara Deeb and It’s Kid Raak in Reserve. Lane Whitney led All That’s Delt to a win in Youth Senior Mares with Abigail Beck and Asker Out coming in Reserve. Abby Bruno won the last two halter classes of the day, Junior Mares and Junior Geldings, with Designed To Be Cool and Supersecret, respectively.

Two World Champion titles for Abby Bruno.

Two World Champion titles for Abby Bruno: one with Designed To Be Cool, the other with Supersecret.

We caught up with one of the winners, Taylor Cartmell, on her way to the photo booth to find out a bit more about her 6-year-old bay gelding named “Catorce.” First off, we had to ask about his interesting barn name.

“Catorce basically means 14 in Spanish,” Cartmell says. “He’s named that because he’s the fourteenth horse this mare has had. His show name is Way Different, and I’ve had him for four years now.”

Catorce is by Diversified and out of Always Somethin. This was Cartmell’s second time in the show pen with Catorce and her first Appaloosa World Championship title.

“I’ve been showing since I was six, and I’ve been showing Apps probably for eight years,” she says. “Before that, I showed Quarter Horses. I have Quarter Horse Congress Champions but no other World Champion titles.”

Guiding Cartmell and Catorce to their win today in Youth Senior Geldings was Cartmell’s horse trainer and stepfather, Tim Jackson. Before she entered the pen to compete, Jackson gave her some helpful advice.

“He always tells me to keep his head up, keep his ears up, and not get him too spread out,” she says. “He’s a big baby, so he would never hurt anybody.”

“He was amazing. He didn’t move at all. Once I got him set up, he stood there the whole time.”

Abigail Beck.

Abigail Beck claimed three Reserve World Champion titles today with Asker Out, Shez Secretive, and Run Puckett Run.
