Tina Mahloch got her first Appaloosa, Honey, when she was six years old. This was the beginning of her passion for the Appaloosa breed.
Growing up with Appaloosa’s has taught Tina to be versatile in whatever event she wanted to do: Trail, Western and English Jumping. But, her favorite event is Western Showmanship. Tina says, “In Western Showmanship, you’re a part of a team with your Appaloosa, creating a partnership. When that partnership works, there’s nothing else like it- the connection you feel with your Appaloosa.”
Tina’s favorite past time with her Appaloosas is breeding and working with the foals to help them fulfill their potential.
Everyone at the Wisconsin Appaloosa Horse Club knows that if you need help at the show, Tina will sacrifice her own showing in order for others to make it to the pen. A perfect example of Tina’s generosity was at the Working Western show this year. A little girl, who normally shows in Reining for NRHA, really wanted to the show in the ApHC show that was held in conjunction with the Working Western celebration.
This little girl was borrowing an Appaloosa for the show and had all the western show gear. She wanted to show in the Hunter in Hand class but didn’t have the right tack. What did Tina do? She took the little girl over to her trailer, handed her a couple English bridles, and said, “Let’s go see which one fits your horse.” This is typical of Tina’s generosity.
Another thing that Tina holds dear to her heart is the Sportsmanship Award that she and her family started when they joined the Wisconsin Appaloosa Horse Club in 2011. Tina, Daryl, and Anthony felt it was important to highlight an individual that really represents the breed and shows good membership skills.
Thank you Tina for all that you do.
