APHA Youth competitors at the 2014 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo rode for more than ribbons. They also took home significant scholarships worth more than $10,000.

The Paint Horse show awarded a pair of scholarships to Youth 14–18 exhibitors. Anna Caroline Hutlas of Shreveport, Louisiana, won the High-Point Youth 14–18 title with Dont Rock My World, a 2000 sorrel overo gelding by Dont Skip Charlie (QH) and out of Roxys Happy Lady (QH). For her achievement, she also took home a $4,000 scholarship.

The Reserve High-Point Youth 14–18 rider, Ally Fink of Coronado, California, took home $2,000 for her achievements with Gallant Zippo, a 2007 chestnut overo gelding by Mckenzies Gallant Jet and out of Zippo Pine Jewel.

The Texas Paint Horse Club also awarded four additional academic scholarships to TPHC members who demonstrated high scholastic achievements, excellent letters of recommendation and participation in their schools and communities.

Marguerite Camp of Longview, Texas, received the $1,500 Sharana Shields Memorial Scholarship for her superior application. She plans to study biomedical science at Texas A&M University.

Three TPHC scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to the following:

Libby Collins of Carrollton, Texas

Lyndsey Culp of Addison, Texas

Meagan Gravelle of Royse City, Texas

“I started the scholarship program about 20 years under one of my terms as president,” TPHC Corresponding Secretary Linda Gordon said. “I feel that the Youth are the future for everything we do. If we can help some of them out in any form or fashion, that’s what we need to do.”
