Today’s classes at the APHA World Show have run the gamut from Halter and Showmanship to Trail and Western Riding. Jason Smith won the first World Championship of the day in Yearling Mares with She’s Maybelleen. Reserve was Flaming Cool Sensation and Chris Arentsen. Third was Red Hot N Style and Kelley Stone-Wainscott. Fourth was Wished You Were Here and Ted Turner. Fifth was Ima Coolsified Girl and Monte Horn. The Intermediate Champion was She’s Urgent and Jessica Lueth.
The winner of Yearling SPB Mares was Tribute To El Ante and Colton Stewart. Reserve was Destiny Is All and Fred Tabor. Third was Nokiddinshesawesome and Glenn Falk. This was also the Intermediate Champion.
Winning 2-Year-Old Mares was JT Mitchell with HP Shez Stylin. Reserve was FG Charismatic and Ted Turner. Third was She’s My Style and Kelley Stone-Wainscott. Fourth was CW Shameless Kisses and Jason Smith. Fifth was Xtreme Illusion and Clint Fullerton.
JT was very pleased with the way this mare showed today. “She was outstanding,” he says. “She got up there in that front hole, and she saw herself in that TV screen up there and said, ‘I’m pretty, and I’m going to look like that all day.’ That’s a pretty, well-balanced mare.”
“Nova” is by Hez Stylin and out of a daughter of The Power to Impress. She was bred by her owners, Karen and Ron Hasty. “We do exclusively Paint horses, so anytime we see a lot of color we’re excited!” Karen says. “She’s very lovable and easy to train. She’s very smart. My husband and I have done all of her training, and she responds very well. JT was our first choice to lead her.”
“Her rear end is spectacular, but I like her forearm and shoulder. That’s kind of my thing. Ron works to get her butt bigger, and I work to get her shoulders bigger. It’s a team effort, definitely.”
Winning SPB 2, 3, and Aged Mares was Prema Vigilanti and Clint Fullerton. Reserve was BKR Holly Golightly and Kerry Aycock. Third was Cool Smokin Cowgirl and Patrice Yoder.
The winner of 3-Year-Old Mares was Secret Design and Ted Turner. Reserve was Sheza Virtue and Chris Arentsen. Third was Shez Stylistic Too and Matthew Henderson. Fourth was Blessingz and Katie Mitchell. Fifth was Plum Pretty Virtue and Larry Volkmar.
Secret Design is by Secrets Of A Legend and has been in training with Jimmie Hardin for the past six months. “She’s a sweetheart,” Jimmie says. “She’s also broke to ride and is very good-minded. I love her face and across her back. She’s good-legged. I love her mind most of all. She would be a great broodmare and a good momma.”
The winner of Aged Mares was Red Hot N Stylish and Kelley Stone Wainscott. This mare is a 19-time World title holder, 5-time Scarlet Print Award winner, and the winningest APHA Halter Horse in history.
The 7-year-old bay mare is owned by the Cassata family and several of them had the opportunity to win a World title with her at the show this year, including Georgia Cook in youth and Bob Cassata in amateur.
“She’s such an incredible individual, and she’s gotten better every year,” Kelley says. “I think what the judges see and reward is excellence and, in her case, excellence is balance. She’s what we talk about, as we’re judging horses, as being perfectly portioned, very well-balanced, and structurally correct. She’s also extraordinarily feminine. I say she’s the cake and the icing too. She’s been wonderful for Georgia, wonderful for Bob, and she knows how to pick up and show in the open as well.”
“We haven’t decided if she will be retired and start making babies. Bob wants to wait until she’s completely done showing to start breeding. We may start embryos in January based upon what they want to do with horse showing. I have three or four dream crosses for her. I want her babies to have that balance, proportion, and correctness that the mare has had all along. It wouldn’t be bad if they got her mind either.”
Reserve was TNR Delish and Jason Smith. Third was She’s Stylish and Adam Wainscott. Fourth was Face Of A Chic and Leslie Temple.
The Masters Showmanship winner was One Good Cowboy and Darcie Winiewicz. Reserve was Nobody But Me and Shelly Phalen. Third was Zip Is It and Kelly Miller. Fourth was Almost Too Tempting and Kristen Shaw. Fifth was My Daddy’s Famous and Susan Barker. Stay tuned for a video interview with Darcie coming soon.
Winning 13 and under Trail was Blair Rozas with AMississippisensation. Reserve was T Town Sensation and Ella Brashears. Third was I’m Good With It and Melody Hackworth. Fourth was Just Enuff Shine and Emily Miller. Fifth was Even More Sensational and Peytyn Goodin.
