APHA is excited to honor punchy Paints that demonstrate excellence and versatility across the board with the second annual High-Point Ranch Horse awards.

To be eligible for the high-point awards, exhibitors must earn at least one point in each of APHA’s four ranch horse events: ranch trail, ranch pleasure, ranch reining and ranch cow work. Open points were based on the horse, while Amateur, Novice Amateur and Youth points were based on each horse-and rider-combination. Each high-point award winner will be awarded a ranch horse trophy saddle provided by Elite Custom Saddles.

Open Horse: Peptos Nic In Time

Marcy Blakely of Springtown, Texas, captured the Open title aboard her 2006 gray overo gelding Peptos Nic In Time. They earned 82 total Open ranch horse points in 2016 for the win; the gelding is by Peptos Boon Shadow (QH) and out of Docs Tinker Belle.

Open Solid Paint-Bred: One Helluva Guy

Last year’s Open and Amateur winner, Jacki Jo Parks of Azle, Texas, was back aboard a new mount in 2016; with One Helluva Guy, Jacki Jo earned 17.5 Open Solid Paint-Bred ranch horse points. One Helluva Guy is a 2010 palomino gelding by Hulluva Chex and out of Mistys Smart Chic (QH).

Amateur: Cheri Wilson & Ima Little Flicker

Riding the 2001 bay tobiano gelding Ima Little Flicker, Cheri Wilson of Tolar, Texas, earned 49 Amateur ranch horse points in 2016. This is the second high-point title earned by Ima Little Flicker—the gelding helped his previous rider clinch the High-Point Youth award in 2015.

Novice Amateur: Amanda Sanchez & RT Hug Me Doc

In only her second year of competition aboard RT Hug Me Doc, Amanda Sanchez of Farmersville, Texas, earned 39 total Novice Amateur points in the ranch horse events. RT Hug Me Doc is a 2007 bay tobiano mare by King Doc Bar and out of Carumba; she’s owned by Amanda.

Youth: Jared Fore & Blue Bar Cowboy

Seventeen-year-old Jared Fore of Bluff Dale, Texas, captured 26 total points aboard his 2006 black overo gelding by Big Cowboy and out of Blue Bar Status; the gelding is owned by Kevin Fore of Bluff Dale.
