APHA founder Rebecca Tyler Lockhart to be Inducted into Texas Trail of Fame

Iconic horsewoman Rebecca Tyler Lockhart, the trailblazing founder of the American Paint Horse Association, is being inducted into The Texas Trail of Fame on October 27.
The Texas Trail of Fame, located in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District in Fort Worth, Texas, honors individuals, organizations, groups and animals who have made a significant contribution to the heritage, traditions, values, preservation and perpetuation of the Western way of life. APHA is honored to have its founder as a 2022 inductee into the esteemed organization.
“As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, it’s a fitting tribute to have our founder memorialized in such a grand way,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “She blazed the trail not just for Paint Horses, but also for women in a then-male-dominated equine industry, and that’s something to celebrate.”
Rebecca keeps good company. The 2022 class of inductees includes:
- Robert Duvall – Actor
- Sam Elliott – Actor
- Geronimo – Apache Medicine Man
- The Texas Rangers – Department of Public Safety
- Jimmy Riscky – Texas Barbecue Legend
- Mollie Taylor Stevenson Sr. & Jr. – Ranchers/Preservationists
- Buster Welch – Cutting Horse Legend
- William “Bill” D. Wittliff – Storyteller/Writer
Rebecca, along with all the inductees, will receive a bronze Texas star marker along the sidewalks of the historic Fort Worth Stockyards.
