Two breeds came together this evening in Fort Worth, TX. at the AjPHA Youth World and ApHC Youth World for the multi-breed Versatility Challenge. Seven horse and rider teams gathered in the arena, with their trusty helpers and wheelbarrows full of tack and clothing, to try to become the 2014 Versatility Champion and winner of $500 in cold, hard cash.
Competitors put horses through their paces in Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and Barrel Racing with a mere five minute break between each class to make the necessary tack and clothing changes. The addition of Horsemanship was new this year, replacing the previous third tier event of Reining.
After the dust settled and the final points were tabulated, it was Andi Nelson with her APHA gelding, Mr. Verifiable, who claimed the top spot. Coming in Reserve was Sydney Schmidt with The Big Maneuver. Third place, and the highest placing Appaloosa, was Taylor Broyles aboard Chock Full of Kisses. Fourth place was Kyle England with DynamicCountryKnight. Rounding out the top five was Carley Baker with Invest In Rock and Roll.
