Masterful maneuvering was on display this evening during Horsemanship classes at the 2017 AjPHA Youth World Show here in Fort Worth, Texas. First up, Margaret Applegarth rode Sensational Design to win her first World Championship title in Novice Youth 14-18 Horsemanship. Just a few classes earlier, we had the chance to talk to her big sister, Isabella Applegarth, after she won 14-18 Trail with Get The Sensation.

15-year-old Maggie has been showing 7-year-old “Minnie” since April of this year. This is her first time competing at the Youth World Show. Her favorite classes include Trail and Western Pleasure, which she will compete in tomorrow.

The entire experience of winning a World Championship title was very overwhelming for Maggie, so much so that she doesn’t remember much about her pattern! “It’s all kind of a blur,” she laughs. “But, I do know that Carly [Veldman-Parks] liked my lines. I was very surprised. I did not think I was going to win it all!”Mouse web

The Reserve Champion in Novice Youth 14-18 Horsemanship was Kaia Bowden with CNC Hez High Profile. Third was Mackenzie Blauwkamp with Just a Lucky Heathen. Fourth was Macie Soderquist with Ima Mega Sensation. Fifth was Olivia Long with Shelby Sensational.

Avery

Next, Avery Rees rode Miss Mesmerized to win Novice Youth 13 and Under Horsemanship. We had the opportunity to chat with Avery earlier in the week, when she was named the World Champion in Novice Youth 13 and Under Showmanship. The Reserve Champion was Kimber Cobbs with Whatcha Expect. Third was Sydney Replogle with Who Painted Me. Fourth was Lindsey Watland with Zippo Bingo. Fifth was Kendal Fellegy with Fancy Sneakers.

10-year-old Alexis was in the saddle of 19-year-old “Cricket” to win her first World Championship title in Walk Trot Horsemanship this afternoon. Alexis currently competes under the guidance of her mother and horse trainer, Amy.

“Last year was my first time showing here, and this is my first World title,” she says. “It feels amazing! I didn’t think I would ever be able to do this in a million years. I like showing in Trail, but I think Horsemanship might be my new favorite class! I didn’t think at all that I was going to win. I thought I was going to be a finalist.”

Gianna

Gianna Pozzi rode Ima Cajon Hot Krymsun to win 13 and Under Horsemanship. We chatted with Gianna when she won 13 and Under Showmanship. Finally, in 14-18 Horsemanship, Lucie Lundquist rode her black and white overo mare, Optimized, to win the class. Her best bud and Simons Show Horses barn mate, Mary Katherine Camp, rode Radicalized to place Reserve. That’s not the only thing these two ladies have in common. They are both members of the TCU Equestrian Team, as are the sixth and eight place riders, Mackenzie Preston with Brokers Lucky Kid and Josephine Mootz with It’s All About Da Ride. Also, Lucie’s horse, Optimized, is by Mary Katherine’s horse, Radicalized! We chatted with Lucie when she won 14-18 Equitation last week.
