Anyone who has watched KM Flat Out The Best over the course of her show career, now that’s she’s seven, has seen the development of a phenomenal horse. From the time she was three when she was the first winner of the Pleasure Versatility Challenge (a class specifically for three-year-olds) with Deanna Searles, she’s shown the promise of being the all-around horse of a lifetime.
At the 2022 AQHA World Championship Show the past week, “Lilly” cinched that perception. She began a Golden Globe winning streak on Friday, November 11th, with owner Susie Johns when they were crowned champions in the L3 Amateur Select Trail with a score of 232.50.
Then Susie and Lilly upped their game one more time on Sunday, November 13th, when the duo won a Golden Globe in Amateur Select Western Riding with a score of 238.
Two classes later, Jeffrey Johns, Susie’s son, showed KM Flat Out The Best to a record score of 240.50 in L3 Amateur Western Riding, the highest score to date for this class at the AQHA World Championship Show. Jeffrey says his run in the class felt great. He explains, “I was just trying to stay out of her way; she was really “on” today. She was good for me in the Amateur Trail prelims this morning, and she was amazing for my mom, and then an hour later, she went back in there and did the same thing. She’s a one in a million horse.”
Jeffrey says it was as if she got better as the day went. “She’s now 7 years old, we’ve had her since she was three, and she’s just getting more solid with each go. She’s awesome and very special to us.”
Deanna Searles explains that Lilly is very sweet and always tries her best. “Everything she does is a little in slow motion; walking her around, getting her cycling for breeding, it’s all in slow motion,” she says. “Everything is on Lilly time, and if you try to change it and make it faster, that’s when she gets a little irritated. Then once she realizes what’s going on, it’s all good – she’s just simple, and she’s kind of a barn favorite.”
