13-year-old Giorgia Grace Medows has won her third Congress title of the horse show this morning, this time, with Mostly Chocolate in Novice Youth 13 and Under Trail. Just yesterday, she piloted OK Pulse Me to win Novice Youth 13 and Under Western Riding and was named the Reserve Champion as well with Mostly Chocolate, aka “Chucky.”
“I’ve never really shown two horses before, until the Youth World, because I just got Chucky earlier this year,” Giorgia says.
13-year-old Chucky is the newest addition to the Medows family and is helping introduce Giorgia to new events like Trail and Showmanship. “I just started competing with Chucky in Trail,” she says. “My first show was the Big A and Stars N Stripes this summer. It was a little scary [doing Trail at the Congress] since I’m not really used to him yet, but he did pretty good, so I was happy. I really liked how smooth the pattern was and how easy it was to maneuver through the different obstacles like the trot to lope sections.”
Guiding Giorgia and Chucky through the class today was longtime trainer, Blake Weis. Giorgia has competed under the guidance of Blake since she was just a small fry rider. This evening, Giorgia will switch horses again to compete in Horsemanship with OK Pulse Me, aka “Trooper.” Later on in the show, she also plans to show Chucky in Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, and Showmanship as well as Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, and Western Riding with Trooper.
Of all the classes she competes in, Giorgia says Horsemanship and Western Riding are her two favorites. Even though this 13-year-old is still in the novice youth division, she has already accumulated seven Congress titles during her short career. We are certain we’ll be seeing much more of her in the future!
The Reserve Champion in the class was Jillian Stopperich with Invested Pine Asset. Third place was Kade Gower with Design By Leaguer. Fourth place was Cori Cansdale with Promotional Asset. Fifth place was Emily Mastroleo with Hot Rageous Rodder.
