PtHA Wrangler Exhibitor of the Month For August is Kara Powell

The Pinto Horse Association Wrangler Exhibitor of the Month for August is Kara Powell from Binghamton, N.Y. Kara is a youth exhibitor who has been showing for six years but has been riding for 11 years.

Powell recalls her first show, riding a Thoroughbred at the age of 12 in English classes. She was nervous before entering the ring at her first class but ended up leaving the show with blue ribbons.

“People would think my parents were crazy letting me ride a huge horse, but he was the biggest gentle giant,” Powell said.

Today, Powell rides her APHA/PtHA gelding, Zips Impressive Image, also known as Logan. Together they show in all around performance events and some speed events. Powell mainly shows at local New York PtHA and APHA shows. Sometimes, she will travel around the East Coast or to national competitions such as the Pinto World Championships.

“Logan is the biggest goofball which makes him a blessing,” Powell said. “He is truly my best friend and is a true joy to own and show.”
