UF press release by: Joy Shaw

The University of Findlay’s 11th Annual Spring Horse Sale, which raises funds for scholarships, is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at the University’s Western Farm, 14700 U.S. Route 68 south of Findlay.

Buyers can preview the horses starting at 10 a.m. with the sale beginning at 12 p.m. Approximately 50 horses, including many two year olds, will be for sale in addition to western pleasure prospects, but others, such as reiners, ranch horses, hunters under saddle and lesson horses, will be offered, too.

The horse sale is the culmination of a senior project, where each student is responsible for breaking and training a young horse, and the equine marketing class, which is responsible for the marketing and coordination of the sale.

Last year, the highest-selling horse, sired by RL Best of Sudden, sold for $9,500. The average sale price was just over $4,000. The record highest seller for any of these events was $21,000 in 2013.

According to equine marketing instructor Kimberly LaComba, a portion of the proceeds will go toward scholarships and to purchase horses for equestrian students to work with the following school year. In 2014 the event provided $40,000 toward scholarships to select UF equine students.

Photos, including a featured horse of the week; videos; an event catalogue; and more details about other equestrian events at UF’s western and English farms are available at www.findlayequestrianevents.com or on The University of Findlay Western and English Facebook pages. Additional information is available by calling 419-434-6256.
