This year, the Youth World Championship Show is all about a harmonious blending of breeds. One competitor, who is showing at both the Appaloosa Youth World Show and AjPHA Youth World Show, achieved an entirely different level of success by claiming two World Champion titles in one day.

First, Cameron Rohn rode his APHA gelding, Secret Treasure, to a World Champion finish in 14-18 Working Hunter. Then, he returned to the pen for the Novice Youth Equitation Over Fences, where the duo claimed the top spot once again.

Coming in Reserve after Rohn in the 14-18 Working Hunter was Kirsten Chamberland with Surenough Sensational. Third place was Alexis Sage Miller with Thanks For Zip En Me. Fourth place was Shelbie Burke with Indivisible. Rounding out the top five was Peyton Weldon with Big Expectations.

Coming in Reserve behind Rohn in the Novice Youth Equitation Over Fences was Taylor Tuso with He’s Worth The Gamble. Third place was Claire Lyons with Classys Sacred Ticket. Lucie Lundquist rode Judge This Zippo to a fourth place finish, and fifth place was Shelbie Burke with Indivisible.

Rohn and “Rodger” have been a team for only a year. The pair has competed under the guidance of Mason Lyon Performance Horses for two and a half years.

“Rodger is my first Paint,” Rohn says. “I think [over fences classes] are really fun and not many guys do it.”

In fact, judging from the pre-entries listed in the premium book, Rohn is quite possibly the only boy competing in over fence classes at the AjPHA Youth World this year.

However, always the soft-spoken gentleman, Rohn is humble about today’s success and is quietly preparing for his last class of the day. This afternoon, he will compete in 14-18 Hunter Hack. Then, on July 3, 4, and 5th, he will switch arenas to compete with his Appaloosa gelding, Honkin Hunter, aka “Tonka” in Working Hunter, Hunter Hack, Hunter Under Saddle, and Hunter In Hand.

Thus far, during his youth career, Rohn has achieved two Pinto Reserve World Champion titles and two APHA World Champion titles. Could an Appaloosa World title be not far behind? Rohn certainly has high hopes, but he’s not getting ahead of himself.

“I was really happy with Rodger,” he says. “I didn’t really [have a different approach] for each class. Mason said to breathe, go slow, and use the whole arena. That’s one of the biggest things.”

We wish this team the very best of luck throughout the rest of the horse show!
