Tonight, the stands of the Virginia Horse Complex were filled with western pleasure enthusiasts eager to see who would take home the top prize in the highly anticipated Hylton Maiden $50,000 Three and Over Western Pleasure at the Virginia Quarter Horse Classic. And the winner is… Randy Wilson with Certainly On Sundi for owner Byron Parsons. Second and third came down to a tie with Jeff Cochran and Betting Ona Krymsun for Rebecca Bailey and Brian Baker with Mr. Sherlock Holmes for Mary Webre.

In addition to receiving a whopping $31,000 check, the owner of the winning horse in the slot class will receive a free breeding to Invitation to Flash, the 2008 AQHA World Champion Performance Halter Stallion and 2008 AQHA Honor Roll High Point Green Western Pleasure Horse.

Just a few days ago, we spoke with Show Manager Patrick Kayser who gave his opinion about why speciality slot classes like the Hylton are beneficial for the horse industry as a whole.

“I think the premise of it is great,” he said. “Having maiden events is always great for those horses that may not be ready to go to the Congress as a two-year-old. They can stay back and progress at their own pace. If you put up that type of money, someone is going to come play. It’s always good to have some big buzz that gets people excited to go to the horse show.” (EquineChronicle.com, 2014)

Earlier in the evening, The Equine Chronicle hosted an Exhibitors’ Dinner in conjunction with the announcement of the Harris Versatility Challenge results. Single horse and rider teams competed in Challenge Trail, Challenge Western Riding, and Challenge Western Pleasure to see which pair could accumulate the most points and win a beautiful Harris show saddle.

The winner of the Harris Versatility Challenge this year was Whitney Lagace!

Congratulation to all of the big winners this evening!
