Interesting Topics Will be up For Discussion at 2014 AQHA Convention

AQHA has released the Standing Committee agendas for the 2014 AQHA Convention, which is scheduled to be held March 7-10 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in New Orleans. Committees include the following.

  • Amateur Committee
  • Equine Research Committee
  • International Committee
  • Judges Committee
  • Marketing and Membership Committee
  • Nominations and Credentials Committee
  • Public Policy Committee
  • Racing Committee
  • Recreational Activities Committee
  • Show and Pro Horseman Committee
  • Stud Book and Registration Committee
  • Youth Activities Committee

As always, there are some interesting proposals up for discussion. Most often, the Amateur Committee and Show and Pro Horseman Committee have the largest number of items on the docket. Check out a brief preview of a few hand-selected items below.

Amateur Committee

8. Amend Rule SHW220.1 to include domestic partners as immediate family.

9. Amend Rule SHW225.2 to raise the select age from 50 years of age to 62 years of age.

10. Amend Rule SHW225.3.1 to allow amateurs to have sponsors to help offset showing expenses for the World Shows.

Show and Pro Horseman Committee Agenda

2. Modify rule SHW112.6 – change junior horse age to six (6).

3. Modify rule SHW112.7 – change senior horse age to seven (7).

Add new class – Ranch Trail – Offered as a Jr/Sr or All Age class for Level 1 (novice) and higher, All Age class for Amateur and Youth – no horse may cross enter a Trail and Ranch Trail at same show regardless of division (youth, amateur, open).

Modify rule SHW400.5 – in Showmanship at Halter an exhibitor may show two horses.

World Show Subcommittee

8. Eliminate World Show webcast.

18. Review whether or not a horse disqualified in a finals class at the World Show due to lameness should still be considered a finalist and receive a ribbon/placing.

19. Allow a person who has qualified for a World Show but has had a medically documented health crisis and is unable to show at that year’s World Show to enter the following year’s World Show.
