Angela Ryan celebrates in the stands following her filly’s win.

Ross Roark was at the lead of another World Champion halter horse at the start of Open week here at the 2013 AQHA World Show. This time it was Flawles, a sorrel filly by My Intention and out of Imagine Me In First. Roark was at the lead today for Harold and Angela Ryan.

Owner, Angela Ryan, sat beside breeder, Jim Snow, in the stands as they watched this “Flawles” filly receive the golden trophy.

“Actually, we weren’t going to buy a baby this year,” Angela Ryan says. “We went up to Jim Snow’s and had lunch with a few of our friends and we saw this filly on her momma. She was two and a half months old.”

“I walked in the stall and looked and I told my husband that I had to have this filly. We went to lunch and thought about it. Then, we came back and bought her. We haven’t been sorry ever since.”

Recently, Flawles claimed a top spot at the Breeder’s Halter Futurity winning the Amateur Weanling Fillies class with 42 entries and the Weanling Fillies at the National Halter Championship with Roark. Following the horse show, Roark took the filly back home to rest and recuperate and set their sights on this class today. Last week, Ryan and Flawles were named the Reserve World Champions in Amateur Weanling Fillies.

“When I saw her, I couldn’t find a fault on her at all,” she says. “I got in the truck and I said, ‘I’m going to check and see if [the name] Flawles has been taken. Of course it was taken back in like 1941 or something, so I called AQHA and they said I could use it if I spelled it different, so I dropped an S.”

Now that Ryan’s filly has lived up to her “Flawles” reputation, they plan to begin a campaign for yearling events next year.

“We’ll keep showing her,” she says. “We’re going to take her to all the World Shows next year and keep going.”
