The ladies of “The Green Team” dominated the limited division of the NSBA Markel Maturity Western Pleasure Futurity late last night at the 2013 All American Quarter Horse Congress. Katie Green led the way with a Congress Championship title on Susan Roberts’s Only A Breeze. Maggie Grandquist came in Reserve with Keith Labrie’s The Party Starts Now.
An enthusiastic cheer could be heard from outside of the pen when Rusty Green discovered that both of his horses had taken the top two spots.
Because this western pleasure finals was held in the much smaller Coliseum, instead of the Celeste, Green made a strategic decision to show the majority of the class off the rail.
“I really tried to show off the rail, because this is a hard pen to show in,” she says. “I felt my best shot was just to wheel off the rail and go for it. It worked out!”
Only A Breeze has found herself in the winner’s circle quite a lot lately. Roberts was recently named the unanimous winner in western pleasure at the 2013 AQHA Select World Show in Amarillo. She will compete again with the mare tonight in the Non-Pro Maturity Western Pleasure Finals and next week in Select Western Pleasure.
Just a few days ago, Green won another Congress Championship in the limited division. This title was achieved aboard Alexandra Chavez’s The Best Sign Yet in the limited division of the NSBA Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Stakes. The Reserve Champion in that class was Eric Petersen aboard Payton Wisely Zippin.
Then, another “Green” lady, Ms. Deanna Green, won a Congress Championship title in Novice Youth Western Riding 14-18 with Blazinmytroublesaway just two days ago. Congratulations to all of the Green girls on their impressive wins thus far at the 2013 Congress!
