Just a month or so ago, 11-year-old Christian Mark Britt won a World Championship title at the 2013 AQHYA World Show with his yearling gelding, Te Coolest Clu. Today, the dynamic little duo did it again winning a Congress Championship title in Youth Yearling Geldings.
Britt’s father and horse trainer explain that this is his son’s third horse show with Te Coolest Clu.
“We bought him back in September of last year,” he says. “He won with him at the Youth World, this is his third horse show with him, and he wins the Congress! It’s pretty exciting.”
Although Britt is only 11 years old, he is no newbie to the winner’s circle at the Congress. He won the Youth Weanling Fillies class last year with Girls Got Booty. Coming into the Congress this year, he was only “kinda nervous.”
Training and showing horses is a family affair for the Britt’s, who fit and manage their own halter horses at home. Just yesterday, Christian’s sister, Taylor Britt, was named the Congress Champion in Youth Weanling Fillies with One Hot Intention. The horse Christian showed today is by One Solid Clu and out of a daughter of Te Coolest.
“It’s a family thing,” Britt says. “We do it on our own. We live about 15 minutes from Gene Parker, and he gives us a little bit of guidance, but we fit our own horses. Two kids and two Congress titles. That’s not bad!”
