Sarah Elder Chabot plans to celebrate her Congress Championship win this afternoon in Amateur Hunter Hack with a “really good glass of wine.” Thankfully, she married the right man, because her husband is a sommelier. However, there is another man in her life… A Well Dressed Man.
“His name is Calvin,” she says. “We got him in September of last year from Janae Bronson with David Miller and Scott Jones. My trainer is Karen Mundy, and she found him for me.”
“He had been started over fences, but we needed to kind of finish putting a lead change on him and everything else. We’ve been showing him all year. He makes me enjoy showing because he is very sweet and laid back. I’ve been doing this a long time, and this is my first Congress Championship. I’m pretty excited.
Contrary to the belief that most over fence horses can be excitable and flighty, Chabot says Calvin is the exact opposite.
“He’s kind of lazy, and he sleeps a lot,” she says. “Mostly, he’s really honest.”
Thus far at the show, Calvin achieved a sixth place finish in Junior Working Hunter. Jessica Johnson will be showing the gelding in Junior Hunter Hack tomorrow. Chabot will be back in the saddle tomorrow as well for Amateur Working Hunter and Amateur Equitation Over Fences.
