Lecture to Discuss Equine Weight Loss Worries

On Tuesday, September 3 at 6:30 pm, Ashley Boyle, DVM, DACVIM will present a lecture on Equine Weight Loss Worries as part of the First Tuesday Lecture Series at Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center, 382 West Street Road, Kennett Square, PA.

The series offers free lectures to the public on equine topics the first Tuesday of each month. The lectures take place in New Bolton Center’s Alumni Hall. Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended and can be made at beltb@vet.upenn.edu.

The case-based presentation on weight loss in horses will explore potential physiological, medical, and management reasons for the condition. Dr. Boyle’s discussion will follow the diagnostic work-up to identify possible reasons for weight loss and how this information is used to address the needs of the horse. She also will share simple ways to identify how much food horses should be eating.

Dr. Boyle is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Field Service at the New Bolton Center, specializing in equine infectious disease. She is Board-Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

During the First Tuesday Lecture Series, faculty and clinicians at New Bolton Center share current information on topics of interest and relevance to horse owners and caregivers throughout the region. Many of the lectures highlight the advanced techniques performed by Penn Vet’s team of leading clinicians and the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities available to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

Penn Vet is one of the world’s premier veterinary schools and is the only school in Pennsylvania graduating veterinarians. Founded in 1884, the school was built on the concept of Many Species, One MedicineTM. The birthplace of veterinary specialties, the school serves a distinctly diverse array of animal patients at its two campuses, from companion animals to horses to farm animals.

The large-animal facility, New Bolton Center, in Kennett Square, PA, includes the George D. Widener Veterinary Hospital for large animals; diagnostic laboratories serving the agriculture industry; and research facilities to determine new treatment and diagnostic measures for large-animal diseases. In Philadelphia, on Penn’s campus, are the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Ryan Hospital) for companion animals; classrooms; research laboratories; and the School’s administrative offices.
