Like Mother, Like Daughter: Taylor Jo Snow Wins First World Title With Amazem in 3-Year-Old Mares at 2013 AQHYA World Show

Just as her mother, Dawn Falcon Causey, did nearly fifteen years ago, 12-year-old Taylor Jo Snow led a beautiful mare to her first World Championship win. Not only do Snow and Causey share the same lineage, the horses they won their first World Championship titles on are mother and daughter as well.

“Dawn’s first World Championship was with Amazin Playgirl in 1998,” Georgia Snow says. “She won again in 2001. That is Taylor’s horse’s momma.”

Taylor’s partner for the class today was Amazem, a bay mare by The Exceptional One and out of Amazin Playgirl. The horse is owned by Jim and Georgia Snow, Taylor’s proud grandparents. During the show season, Amazem stays with Grandma and Grandpa, but here at the Youth World, Ted Turner took over coaching duties for young Taylor.

Like most World Championship titles this one didn’t come without hard work, dedication, and very early mornings. Taylor joined Turner every morning at 5 am to prepare for today’s class. The pair made a game plan, went over their signals, and talked about strategy.

Taylor is very happy that showing horses is a family affair. She talked about what it means to win her first World Championship title on a horse with so much family history.

“I think it’s kind of cool, because Mom got her first World Championship with [Amazem’s] mom and now I got mine,” she says. “It’s kind of like we won with the same horse… kind of.”

Although today’s win was definitely a family effort, Taylor was very clear about who gets to go home with the Championship buckle and golden trophy.

“The trophy is going home to my house!”

Tomorrow, Taylor will try her hand in Showmanship with Ms Raleighs Spark in a very large class of 176 entries. But for tonight, she plans to celebrate by taking her family and friends out to dinner at a local hot spot such as Charleston’s or Trapper’s.

When this young equestrian returns home, she plans to begin practicing for a different type of competition, one that requires a fastball.

“When I’m at my house, I’m usually playing softball or practicing showmanship,” she says. “We just got done with State, so that was pretty exciting.”
