RJ Jacobs Wins 2-Year-Old Geldings and Aged Mares at 2013 AQHYA World Show

AQHA youth exhibitor RJ Jacobs had quite a busy morning at the 2013 AQHYA World Show competing in the 2-Year-Old Geldings and Aged Mares with only a class’s rest in between. Despite the tight schedule, all the hard work paid off, and he concluded the day by winning World Championship titles in both classes.

In a very competitive class of 18 qualifiers Jacobs led Maxxed Out, a sorrel gelding by Maxxam and out of Fashions Touch, to a win in 2-Year-Old Geldings. He rose to the top again in the Aged Mares, this time with Pretty As A Package, a 2008 sorrel mare by The Package and out of Excloosa.

Yesterday, the busy youth led She Is A Stemwinder, a sorrel mare by Heza Stemwinder and out of Millenial Princess, to a fifth place finish in 2-Year-Old Mares. Overall, it was a very successful trip from Ohio to Oklahoma City for the Jacobs family.

Now that Jacobs has competed in his last event here at the Youth World he’s headed to the airport to fly home for football practice tomorrow. As much as he loves showing horse Jacobs admits that football is his first love, and he is excitedly preparing for a banner season as the freshman quarterback.

“I love [showing halter],” he says. “I really want to follow in my dad’s footsteps. I watched him show when I was younger growing up. It’s a lot of fun. I like to be able to go practice the night before I show and then go show the next day. Then, you’re done in the morning.”

“I don’t think I’ll go to Congress because of football. I love [football]. I’d rather be playing football than showing, but I do love showing a lot too.”

Jacobs’s World Champion partner in the 2-Year-Old Geldings class, Maxxed Out, formerly belonged to a customer in his father’s barn. After purchasing the horse, the decision was made to try to qualify for the Youth World this year.

“I showed him twice this summer to get him qualified,” he says. “Then, he’s just been at home until this show.”

“I like how this horse makes me work to show him. You don’t just set him up one time and then show the whole time. I had to work for it. He kept moving and stuff, and he made me work to get where I’m at. I like that a lot. I don’t like a horse that just stands still and is boring. He’s fun.”

A big congratulations goes to the Jacobs family on a very exciting Youth World Show, and we wish them the best of luck during the upcoming football season. The Pirates certainly have a very capable young man to lead their team.

“We were undefeated last year,” he says. “We ended up losing our first playoff game, but we have everyone back this year so we should do really well.”

The Reserve World Champion in Two-Year-Old Geldings was Shyanne Smith with Strutten, a sorrel gelding by My Intention and out of Supreme Grace. Rounding out the top three was Cooper Dobbs with This Big, a chestnut gelding by My Intention and out of Say Sierra.

The Reserve World Champion in Aged Mares was Ireland Cofrancesco with Virtues, a sorrel mare by A Radiant Image and out of Sheza Virtuous Lady. Coming in third was Christopher Trahan with Sacreds Supreme, a sorrel mare by MH Supremo and out of Sacred Sierra.
