11-Year-Old Christian Britt Wins First World Title at First AQHYA World Show With Te Coolest Clu in Yearling Geldings

For his first trip to an AQHA Youth World Show 11-year-old Christian Britt will be heading home to North Carolina with some very impressive hardware. This morning, Britt led Te Coolest Clu, a sorrel gelding by One Silent Clu and out of Touch Te Coolest, to a win in the Yearling Geldings.

Although some younger exhibitors might be intimidated by competing in a class with other competitors as old as 18, this veteran youth showed no fear.

“It felt the same,” Britt says. “I go in with the older kids all the time. [Te Coolest] did good. That was the best he has done for me.”

Not only was Britt competing against kids nearly twice his age in this particular class, he had to stay calm in order to properly guide a very young horse to victory.

“I’m used to it,” he says. “You have to watch out because they will move their feet more [than an older horse] and sometimes they’ll get spunkier.”

“I also showed in Aged Geldings [with Touched By Michele]. I was second in the 13 and Under, second in the Intermediate, and sixth in the placings.”

Helping direct this young man to victory was Britt’s horse trainer and father, Steve Britt. He also received some special instruction from Mr. Gene Parker.

“Dad has always been my trainer and helped me,” he says. “Mr. Gene came up here this time with me too. It’s easier having a horse trainer be my Dad, because he makes it easier for me. He [told me to] stay calm, don’t get mad with [the horse], and do my best.”

Coming in Reserve in this class was another Intermediate exhibitor, Caleb Fields, with Truizm, a bay gelding by Ckade and out of Tru Obssesion.
