PRCA Wrangler Champions Challenge in Amarillo Will Host Reining World Champions/AQHA Members

Filed under: Club & Show News |

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will stop in Amarillo on September 18 for one of four stops of the Wrangler Champions Challenge. The Champions Challenge rodeos will be aired on Great American Country in a made-for-TV series featuring 10 top competitors in each event.

“Amarillo and the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo are honored to be one of the four stops for the Wrangler Champions Challenge,” said Virgil Bartlett, general manager of the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo. “Our Champions Challenge will take place on Wednesday, September 18, the night prior to our PRCA rodeo kicking off.”

Commitments have been received from all eight reigning PRCA world champions: all-around cowboy and AQHA member Trevor Brazile, bareback rider Kaycee Feild, steer wrestler and AQHA member Luke Branquinho, team roper (header) Chad Masters, team roper (heeler) and AQHA member Jade Corkill, saddle bronc rider Jesse Wright, tie-down roper Tuff Cooper and bull rider Cody Teel.

The top seven competitors in each event from the 2012 world standings have been invited to participate. Two of the remaining three spots will go to leaders in the 2013 world standings and 2013 Wrangler Million Dollar Tour standings 30 days before each Champions Challenge event. The last spot will be awarded to Amarillo’s 2012 defending champion.

The format will be a 10-person, single-round rodeo with the wins going to the fastest times and highest scores. Autograph sessions will be held after each event with the top four contestants from that evening’s performance for fan interaction.

The rodeo is at 7 p.m. at the Amarillo National Center. Tickets for the event are on sale at the fair office or at www.tristatefair.com.

The Amarillo Champions Challenge will air on GAC at 4 p.m. (CST) on September 29 and 9 a.m. (CST) on October 5.
