My mare, Jolie, and I have a super unique story – I showed as a youth, but I took a ten-year break from horses to get my nursing degree and become a mom. I didn’t think I would start getting back into horses until my youngest was in kindergarten (she’s currently 22 months).
But on my older daughter’s fourth birthday, I did a horseback lesson as one of her birthday gifts. Then we started going weekly for lessons for my daughter- not me (my youngest was 5 months at the time).
After a month and a half at the barn, my chocolate Lab unexpectedly passed away and my daughter’s trainer offered to let me ride her mare to help cheer me up. I fell in love, and three months later began leasing her.
I was able to do horses with the kids! I bred Jolie (Shesacertainsensation) while I was leasing her, and a few months later I bought her because I couldn’t imagine not having her the rest of my life.
My mare had a bay roan filly by VS Goodride on Friday and the photos turned out phenomenal so I thought I’d share!
And now here I am, a mom of three kids, finding time daily to love on my mare and our newest addition, Birdie. She is everything that was on my dream wish list when I bred Jolie.
