The Ride of a Lifetime for Carly Parks and Wrap Me In Red
On social media Friday night after a spectacular pattern that won her a first Gold Globe, Carly Parks sat in the stall with Evie, Wrap Me in Red, reflecting on a pattern and journey that made her biggest dream come true.
Carly wrote, “Everyone talks about being the last one standing in that arena, but even better happened, my fellow trainers who I look up to so much stayed and cheered me on. I will never forget this night and everyone who made it possible. Evie, you deserve this more than any horse, thank you for the ride of a lifetime!!!”
The L3 Senior Finals was certainly daunting with runs over six minutes each, but nonetheless, the team not only achieved an overall score of 243 in the finals for an original class of 82, but they also brought the audience to new heights of noise and appreciation when the pattern was complete.
Afterward, there was no guessing how happy Carly was for their achievement. “It felt so good. I was so nervous and a couple of times I was definitely glad I knew my horse so well because the longer it went, the more nervous I got, and I could just trust her.’
Carly and owner Siena Holyoak show Evie, a 2017 sorrel mare (VS Code Red – Gifted Invitation by Invitation Only) and she’s their baby, Carly explains.
“She’s a really special horse and also a really sensitive horse. She likes that Sienna and I ride a lot alike, and she likes that consistency – she likes things to be right, and she does not want to be scolded or have her feelings hurt, so she gives 100% so most of the time. If there’s a mistake, it’s my or Sienna’s fault, not hers. We say that all the time, we’re like, well, we know she’s perfect, so we suck,” Carly laughs, “and to be treated like the Queen she is. And sour gummy worms all the time. non-stop! We’re lucky to have her.”
