AQHA All-Around Amateur Crowned

During the past week and a half, the top exhibitors and horses have been competing at the 2023 Nutrena AQHA World Championship Show AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan); Adequan® Level 2 Championships; and Nutrena Level 1 Champion of Champions classes. The show runs through November 15 at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The 2023 AQHA All-Around Amateur Award is presented to the exhibitor and horse team that earns the most points in three or more Level 3 amateur events in three or more categories during the show.

The 2023 AQHA All-Around Amateur is Mallory Vroegh of Grimes, Iowa, who showed Cool Made Machine, owned by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Shannon Walker. Walker is also Vroegh’s mother and received this award for her during the in-arena presentation. The 2017 bay gelding by Machine Made and out of Cool Krymsun Lady was bred by Knapp Quarter Horse Farms LC of Van Meter, Iowa. Vroegh and Cool Made Machine earned 38.5 points in amateur competition by being the reserve world champions in hunt seat equitation, placing third in performance halter geldings and hunter under saddle, seventh in horsemanship and eighth in western pleasure. The team received a prize package that included a neck wreath, $10,000 and a Lisa Perry Bronze.

The reserve all-around amateur is Ellexxah Ireland Maxwell of Mexico, New York, who showed Crank Up The Band. The 2005 palomino gelding by Reminic N Dunit and out of Smart Dolly Olena was bred by Hunt Quarter Horses of Big Rock, Illinois. Maxwell and Crank Up The Band earned 37 points. In amateur competition, the pair were the reserve world champions in ranch riding, placed fourth in ranch trail, seventh in showmanship, ninth in horsemanship and were finalists in working western rail. The pair received $5,000 and a silver cup.

 

The third-place all-around amateur is Angela Wade of Wellington, Florida, who showed A Soxy Dream. The 2013 sorrel mare by A Dream Remembered and out of Roxie Soxy was bred by Robbie and Janice Free of Bradford, Arkansas. Wade and A Soxy Dream earned 32 points. In amateur competition, the team earned the world champion title in trail, reserve world champion title in western riding and were finalists in horsemanship.

 

 

The fourth-place all-around amateur is Sara Elaine Eveleigh of Pulaski, New York, who showed Sleepin N My Blumers, owned by Tricia Everleigh. The 2016 sorrel gelding by Too Sleepy To Zip and out of Blumers was bred by Kyle Simmons of Scottsville, Texas. Eveleigh and Sleepin N My Blumers earned 30.5 points. In amateur competition, they were the reserve world champions in equitation over fences, third in jumping, fourth in hunter hack and sixth in amateur working hunter.

The fifth-place all-around amateur is Angela Fox of Frisco, Texas, showed Makin Me Happy. The 2019 sorrel gelding owned by Three Fox Farm LLC out of Frisco Texas is by Makin Me Willy Wild and out of My Invested Machine and was bred by Debra Trubee of North Lawrence, Ohio. Fox and Makin Me Happy earned 24 points. In amateur competition, the team was world champions in hunter under saddle and amateur performance halter geldings, eighth in hunt seat equitation and finalists in showmanship.

The all-around amateur third- through fifth-place award winners each received $1,500.
