Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News |

An Equine Production

The NCQHA Tarheel Summer Classic is coming up June 11-14 in Raleigh, NC. Judges will be Danielle Burns, Buddy Fisher, Lisa Moden, Garth Gooding, Terry Cross, and John Briggs.

The North Carolina Quarter Horse Association and the Hunt Horse Complex have put preventative measures in place due to the spread of COVID-19, however attending an event could increase your risk of contracting COVID-19. By entering the facility, you voluntarily assume all risk and agree that you will not hold the North Carolina Quarter Horse Association, An Equine Production, the Hunt Horse Complex, City of Raleigh, and all associations liable for any resulting injury or illness.

A full waiver and health guidelines can be found at the links below. Your cooperation in following ALL guidelines will give everyone the opportunity to keep going to horse shows!

Here are a few highlights:

  • Always maintain at least 6 feet of distance between others while on the property. Always maintain at least six feet between each other while on a horse.
  • Do not congregate in areas such as barns, ringside, show office, ect.
  • No spectators are allowed.
  • Wear PPE when possible. The HHC strongly encourages guests wear face coverings in areas that can have high concentration of people, such as barns, arena complex, vendor areas, spectator areas, concession areas, show offices, registration areas, and in any indoor or covered budding. Face coverings do not have to be worn while mounted on a horse.

In addition, here is a helpful list of FAQ’s.

#1- What can I do to prepare myself to come show in Raleigh?

Read the Health Guidelines and the Release of Liability. Have a printed, signed copy of the release for each person in your party when you arrive on the fairgrounds.

Obtain a face covering and be prepared to wear it when you are likely to be within 6 feet of people not in your party (when you go to the office, watching classes, standing in line at food or other vendors). The best practice is to always keep your face covering with you.

#2- Am I required to wear a face covering when I am on or leading my horse?

No. You do not need to wear a face covering when on or leading your horse. You do need to continue to practice effective social distancing whether horseback or afoot.

#3- Am I required to wear a face covering when I am banding/braiding a horse?

No. You do need to continue to practice social distancing. The best practice is to band/braid a horse alone in a stall.

#4- Am I required to wear a face covering when I am cleaning stalls?

No. You do need to continue to practice social distancing.

#5- Am I required to wear a face covering when I am sitting at my stalls?

No, you are not required to wear a face covering at your stalls if you are with members of your party. The best policy is to always keep your face covering with you so if someone outside your party enters your area and wants to engage you in conversation that you have it with you.

#6- I am a trainer. What additional responsibilities do I have?

As a trainer, you should pass along the three documents to your clients and have them aware and prepared to attend the horse show as it relates to the Health Requirements and Release of Liability, much like you have them prepared to compete.

Additionally, if you have any clients that are ill or in the high risk category, you should inform them not to attend the horse show. If any in your party becomes ill within 14 days of the show, you should inform the North Carolina Quarter Horse Association immediately by phone or email.

#7- Any tips for having a healthy and successful time at the show?

  • Obtain a face covering when you are with six feet of others.
  • Wash your hand with soap and water frequently.
  • Maintain effective social distancing (at least 6 ft) at all times.
  • Follow the direction of the show and event staff on entering and exiting the areas, maintaining social distance, donning your face covering, ect.
  • Be happy to be back with your equine partner at a great event.
