NAVC Offers Support to Veterinary Professionals During COVID-19

Filed under: Health & Training |

ORLANDO, FL – May 20, 2020 – The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) is expanding its offerings of free services to veterinary professionals during the COVID-19 crisis including free certification training, job postings to fill urgently-needed relief positions and online courses to support mental health and wellbeing.

“During this time, it’s more important than ever to support our veterinary community,” said Gene O’Neill, NAVC CEO. “We are committed to helping our family of veterinary professionals in every aspect of their work, from the hiring process to providing the necessary tools and training to care for their clients, patients and themselves.”

Human-Animal Bond Certification

NAVC and the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) are providing their Human-Animal Bond Certification program free of charge to all third and fourth year veterinary students and to 500 veterinary professionals on a first-come, first-serve basis. Within one hour of opening this up, all 500 spaces for veterinary professionals were filled. Free HAB Certification is still available for all third and fourth-year veterinary students. This free CE opportunity has been made possible by these generous sponsors: Nationwide Pet Insurance, AKC, Banfield, Mars Petcare, Purina and Merck. The Human-Animal Bond Certification course, jointly founded by the NAVC and the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), provides 22 hours of Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) credits, which is specifically helpful for veterinary professionals seeking additional opportunities to obtain credits due to ongoing cancellations of meetings and conferences. https://navc.com/certifications/human-animal-bond-certification/

“The role of veterinarians in preserving and strengthening the human-animal bond has never been more important,” said HABRI Executive Director Steven Feldman. “We applaud NAVC’s leadership and generosity in supporting the veterinary community. They are great partners offering so many valuable resources during this challenging time.”

NAVC Retriever

NAVC is offering free job listings for relief positions on its app-based job recruiting program, NAVC Retriever, through May 31, 2020. This online service uses matching criteria to pair job seekers with practices seeking to discover, hire and develop talent. Relief jobs are essential during this pandemic as they allow veterinary professionals to fill in for each other when they are ill or can’t come to work. Veterinarians, veterinary nurses/technicians, practice managers and students can download the free NAVC Retriever app and easily browse and apply for job openings. Once an online profile is created, users will automatically be matched with the jobs they qualify for. Visit https://retriever.navc.com/ to see a list of available positions.

Vetfolio

VetFolio, a joint venture of the NAVC and LifeLearn Animal Health, has opened up free access to its online learning curriculum. Veterinary professionals are now able to meet their required credit hours in time for quickly approaching deadlines by accessing select courses through VetFolio for free, from home at their convenience 24/7. Courses include managing stress through personal distancing and adapting vet practices for success. For a full list of courses, visit https://www.vetfolio.com/pages/trial-page.
