Sincerest Condolences Following Passing of APHA National Director, Sandy Read

Former APHA National Director Sandy Read of Aubrey, Texas, died May 22. APHA sends condolences to Sandy’s family, friends and acquaintances.

A lifetime member of APHA since 2000, Sandy served on the Mississippi Paint Horse Club board of directors and was an APHA national director from 1990–2009. During her APHA tenure, Sandy served on the Amateur, Long-Range Planning, Promotion, Judges, Registration, Youth and International committees. She was also vice chairwoman of the Long-Range Planning Committee in 1994 and chairwoman of the Promotion Committee from 1995–1998.

Sandy owned 21 Paint Horses during her lifetime and bred 15 Paints. Several mounts—including the successful show horses:

  • Robins Expression, earner of 584 points and an APHA world championship in Youth Western Pleasure
  • Sheza Pepper, earner of 85 Amateur points with Sandy, along with 160 Open points and an APHA Champion title
  • Too Sexy Formyspot, a multiple world and reserve world champion and earner of more than 1,850 APHA points

She is survived by daughter Ryan Read of Aubrey, Texas; sister Kathleen Vincent Snow of Mobile, Alabama; brother David Vincent of Sparta, Tennessee; niece Hannah Vincent; and nephews Edward Hugh Snow II and Daniel Vincent. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Charlton Rule Vincent, and her mother, Jean Luckett Vincent.
