After the overwhelming success of the 2018 program, the APHA Paint Horse Championship program returns for 2019 with the same criteria. Designed to reward regional success and grassroots competitors, the Paint Horse Championships take place in conjunction with an APHA-approved show within each of the association’s zones.

“The program saw much success in 2018 and we’re hoping to continue that trend for 2019,”  APHA Director of Shows Amanda Cormack said.

View the 2019 Paint Horse Championship criteria.

Each Zone is given the opportunity to offer Paint Horse Championship classes at one show. Zone Coordinating Committees are responsible for selecting the APHA-approved show within their zone in which to offer the classes. These classes may not take place in conjunction with an APHA Zone Show (Exception:  Zones 10, 11 or 12).

APHA sponsors awards for up to 15 classes per show; selected events are at the discretion of show management. Awards include a Gist championship buckle and second- through sixth–place medallions for each class, valued at $3,500. Shows may offer additional Paint Horse Championship classes and purchase the additional awards for these classes from APHA.

Once the Zone Coordinating Committees have selected an APHA-approved show within their zone to host the classes, approval must be given through APHA.

Show managers that are interested in hosting these classes at their shows need to request approval through APHA Director of Shows, Amanda Cormack.  Contact Amanda at (817) 222-6416 or email at acormack@apha.com.
