AQHA Shows Postponed Due to Hurricane Florence

As Hurricane Florence heads toward the coast of the Carolinas, AQHA show managers are making decisions for events scheduled this weekend.

The following two AQHA events have been postponed, due to Hurricane Florence:

• District 1 Special Cattle Event in Lenoir, North Carolina, will be rescheduled. New show dates to be determined. For more information, contact Susan Daniels, 919-894-0600 or visit www.ncqha.com.
• End of Summer Showdown in Culpepper, Virginia, has been postponed and rescheduled for September 21-23. Contact Suzanne Gonzales at 703-201-2915 for more information or visit www.myvqha.com for updates.

Show managers for the following shows near the potential hurricane impact areas have confirmed that these events will still be held:

• Tri State Quarter Horse Association Futurity, Harlansburg, Pennsylvania, September 15-16, www.tsqha.com
• New York State Quarter Horse Association Show, Cobleskill, New York, September 14-16 www.nysqha.com
• Tennessee Quarter Horse Association Circuit Show, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, September 14-16, www.tqha.org
• Mississippi Quarter Horse Youth Association/Mississippi Quarter Horse Association Fall Classic, Jackson, Mississippi, September 15-16, www.mqha.org

Show and event managers should be aware that Hurricane Florence could affect travel for exhibitors, judges and show personnel. Be sure to verify flight and other travel arrangements for judges and show personnel.

The American Quarter Horse Foundation has established a disaster relief fund, which accepts monetary donations for state and/or federally declared national disasters. Foundation staff will work with agencies and veterinary members in the affected area to determine needs of the equine community and the agencies that are providing the most effective relief. Priority funding areas include temporary shelter/holding facilities, feed, veterinary care, search-and-rescue, and other vital resources.
