Held at the renowned Del Mar Horse Park, just minutes from the beautiful Del Mar beaches, the annual PcQHA Fall Classic show attracted exhibitors from all the Western United States. The mornings were foggy and cool, but the sun came out by noon and beautiful show days were enjoyed by all.

Ken McCall, show committee chair, felt privileged to direct the PCQHA Fall Classic Show. “Fall Classic highlights awesome Futurity Classes, challenging Ranch Riding and Trail Classes, large Novice Classes, and one humorous pig. It’s a great show, managed professionally and smoothly by Track One Events, and most of all filled with grateful exhibitors. Thanks one and all for participating and a huge thanks to Chris Hocutt, Judy Bonham, Cathy Hansen, Cherie Vonada, CeCe Campbell, Lori Pabst, Clay MacLeod, and Pam Glickman for their hands on volunteering and the support of the Fall Classic Committee and Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association Board.”

The show began on Thursday. After the days classes were completed, exhibitors relaxed with a traditional welcome party. Wine, appetizers, and music greeted exhibitors as they finished up their first day of showing on the veranda overlooking the show arenas. Over 300 stalls and 5,200 exhibitors showed to six judges over the four-day split combined show. Beautiful blue ribbon neck sashes greeted each circuit winner, along with logo ball caps and t-shirts. All Around Champions earned a beautiful AQHA ARC horse trophy and Reserve Champions won a $50 gift certificate to Mary’s Tack Store. Special thanks to Sandy Arledge, AQHA President and PCQHA Past President for attending the event and for presenting the Futurity awards.

David kissing the pig!

David Busick kissing Marla the pig!

Saturday was a youth fundraiser day, and the youth held a “Kiss the Pig” event and a “Duck Squat” contest. Pam Glickman, owner of Pammie’s Pony Parties and Petting Zoo, graciously provided Marla the Kunekune Pig for the fun. The gist was that a person or persons paid a nomination fee to see someone kiss the pig. The nominee then had to either match the amount pledged or kiss the pig. Kelly Hinley and David Busick were great sports and kissed Miss Marla square on the snout! All the other nominees chickened out and bought out of the privilege.

In the Duck Squat, the bottom of a plastic pool was sectioned off and the sections numbered. Each participant bought a number, and when all numbers were sold, Dora the duck was put in the pool. When Dora squatted, the number that received the ‘deposit’ was the big winner, and all the money went to the person holding that number. A big thanks to Pam Glickman with Pammies’ Pony Parties, for donating her pets Marla the pig and Darla the Duck. The duck squat made $165 and we did three games. Winners were Jim Searles, Kathy Tobin, and Brad Huggins. The Kiss The Pig made $860 and Tom Lukenbill, Kellie Hinely, and David Busick kissed the pig. We congratulate the one brave youth who kissed the pig, Jayden Mc Donough. The event earned a grand total of $1.025 for the youth of PCQHYA. A special thank you to Judy Bonham for organizing the event. It provided a lot of laughs!
