The 2016 Oregon Summer Classic is off to a fantastic start in Central Point, Oregon providing AQHA competitors with the opportunity to show to eight judges over the course of six days.

Judges for the show include John Briggs, Brett Clark, Jim Dudley, Pam Scott, Mike Hay, Tracy Willis, Robin Frid, Mark Guynn, Jimmy Stickler, Terry Thompson, Steve Meadows, Kerry Allen, Brendan Brown, Steve Brown, Doug Huls, and Morgan Lybbert.

Today, many exhibitors are enjoying the “off-day” of the competition with fun excursions like the Hellgate Jet Boat Trip, Rogue Valley Zipline Adventure, Rogue River Rafting, Rogue River Fishing Trips, and even Wine Tasting Tours!

Check out some of the largest class sizes recorded thus far:

  • L2 Amateur Select Trail- 15
  • Dally Team Roping- 15
  • L1 Youth Western Horsemanship 14-18- 17
  • L1 Amateur Select Western Horsemanship- 17
  • L1 Junior Western Pleasure- 18
  • L1 Amateur Ranch Riding- 18
  • Senior Ranch Riding- 19
  • L3 Amateur Select Trail- 21
  • Amateur Ranch Riding- 22

Special events at the show include the Youth Champion of Champions, where Equitation and Horsemanship riders battle it out for the opportunity to be named the overall champion. The first and second place winners in Youth Hunt Seat Equitation and Youth Horsemanship from classes held Monday and Tuesday, under each judge, as well as the Youth, Novice Youth 13 & under and Novice Youth 14-18 will be invited to participate. The class will consist of rail work only and will be scored using a handicap system.

Also, everyone is looking forward to the always popular Trainer Showmanship Challenge. There will be prizes presented for the Best Pattern, Best Costume, and Best Performance. Trainers will be auctioned off and 60% of the proceeds will go to the OQHYA World Show team. The remaining 40% will be paid back to the winning bidders; 20% will go to the Best Pattern and 20% will go to the Best Performance.

Also, the first and second place winners of the Youth Reining, Cowhorse, and Ranch Riding from the Monday and Tuesday classes, under each judge, as well as the Youth, Novice Youth 13 & under and Novice Youth 14-18 are invited to compete for the Youth Top Hand Award. This class will consist solely of rail work on command.
