The 2016 Little Futurity is in its third and final day during the 2016 Tar Heel Triple Classic that’s currently taking place at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Tar Heel Triple Classic began June 9th with the NCQHYA Show and will continue through the 18th with the NCQHA Jamboree.
Dan Trein, Gayle Lampinen, Jessica Gilliam, and Rhonda Replogle judged the first four sets of points during the circuit, and Terry Thompson, Brad Kearns, David Fairchild, Daren Wright, April Devitt, and Valerie Kearns will judge the last six sets of points during the Jamboree.
The Little Futurity is celebrating its 12th year in 2016 with judges Jeff Allen, Rhonda Replogle, Terry Thompson, David Fairchild, Jonathan Meilleur, and Jessica Gilliam officiating.
Winning the first slot class last night, the NSBA Southern Oaks 3 and 4-Year-Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure with $25,000 added, was Shane Pope aboard Vital Signs Are Stable for owner Cathy Corrigan Frank. The Reserve Champion was Casey Willis aboard KM Weknowsheshot for owner Masterson Farms, LLC. These two horse and rider pairs tied for the win and split the purse with $8,460 going to each.
Third was Cody Parrish with Lexus Made Lazy. Fourth was Shannon Curl with Ready Set Lope. Fifth was Angie Cannizzaro with Inviting Inthe Dark. Sixth was Kenny Lakins with Extremely Good Stuff. Seventh was Jeff Long with Moonlightin. Eighth was Brian Baker with My Daddys Lazy. Ninth was Maggie Grandquist with The Born Legacy. Tenth was Dawn Baker with Make It Rain.
Special events on tap for today are the Pony Walk Trot, for exhibitors 7 and under; the Heart of Stone Western Pleasure, where all entry fees will be donated to the Heart of Stone Foundation in honor of the late Stone Pope; the Winehurst Farms NSBA $10,000 Limited Horse Maturity Western Pleasure, and the NSBA Little Futurity Non Pro 3 and Over $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure slot class with $20,000 added.
