Vanessa knows Paint horses. She comes from a long line of distinguished horsemen. Her grandparents showed horses, and she’s part owner of the farm where she grew up, in Sawyer, Michigan, where her family still keeps horses. “Horses and competition have always been a family affair for us,” she says. “My parents competed with Paints, and my sister competed extensively on the Buckskin circuit and went to the Youth World show. I’ve been involved with horses since birth, and I’ve competed in the APHA for over twenty years.”

Horses are still a big part of her life these days. Now, living in Illinois with her husband, John, she keeps horses in multiple locations. Every Monday, she and her sons, Collin (8) and Connor (6), commute three hours each way to work with their trainer, Jenell Pogue, in South Bend, Indiana. Her boys will be joining her on the show circuit this summer, Collin in Walk/Trot and Connor in Leadline. In addition to her show horses, Vanessa, her sister, and her parents maintain an active Paint breeding program on the family farm. Invited to the Dance, or “Warren” as he’s lovingly called, currently stands with Dr. Garry J. Fedore in Cassopolis, Michigan.

At a graceful, long-legged, 16.2 hands, this 2009 stallion has it all: brilliant coloration, sweeping movement, and a willing and gentle disposition. Vanessa says, “Warren is a lover like I’ve never known. He’s constantly in my face and arms like he’s a Corgi! As the mother of two boys, I want them to always want to show horses like our family has done. Having kind and great minded horses is a must for me, and that’s Warren. His kind behavior with my boys just melts my heart.”
